Welcome to the Maine Justice Foundation

Formerly the Maine Bar Foundation

Maine Justice Foundation is very pleased to announce the establishment of our newest endowment fund:

The Michael J. Levey and Michael S. Brown Fund

Designated for the operational expenses of the Maine Justice Foundation

Many thanks to Mike and his wife for their generous spirit and strong commitment to justice.

Special opportunity for giving!

Good News! On December 18, 2015, Congress passed a tax bill that made the IRA Charitable Rollover permanent. This allows people aged 70-1/2 or older to transfer up to $100,000 annually from their IRA accounts directly to a charity, like the Maine Justice Foundation.

The distribution counts as their required minimum distribution without increasing their adjusted gross income and counts as a tax-free transfer. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to support charity while realizing these benefits.

Our new website is coming soon!

The Maine Justice Foundation is dedicated to ensuring access to civil justice for low-income and vulnerable Mainers by providing charitable investment opportunities to individuals, families and organizations as well as grants to support civil legal aid and other related initiatives, education and services.

We support Maine's civil legal aid providers and pro bono initiatives throughout the state. In turn, the programs we fund help:
  • Families affected by domestic violence and abuse
  • Seniors, veterans, single parents, new Mainers and others whose safety, security, and access to benefits are threatened
  • Tenants and home owners facing eviction and foreclosure
  • Thousands of other Mainers with low incomes who have unmet legal needs
Our belief that "Fairness Matters" drives our mission of supporting the legal advocates who are working on the front lines every day.

To contact us, please call 207 622-3477, or email our Executive Director Diana Scully at: dscully@justicemaine.org.

Request for Proposals—Economic Impact Study
The Justice Action Group requests proposals to analyze the economic impact of civil legal aid services provided by six legal aid providers in Maine during CY 2015 and to produce a written report summarizing those findings by September 30, 2016.
